SAAD GROUP IN HOT WATERS
… Imports & Supplies Rotten Rice

By Ibrahim Alusine Kamara
The health and safety of the Sierra Leone Police personnel, their family members and the citizens in general appear to be in great danger following the influx of a new breed of rice called ‘’Champion’’ in the market.
The said rice, according to reports gathered by this medium, is imported into the country by Saad Group, a major rice importer and supplier in Sierra Leone, who is also said to be supplying rice to the Sierra Leonean Police force.
Information gathered by Salone Compass newspaper revealed that this particular rice breed is hazardous for human consumption.
Sadly, it is the same rice that is now being supplied to the Sierra Leone Police and the general public for consumption despite the fact that the rice has been proven to be unfit for purpose.
Many Sierra Leoneans who have consumed the said rice have also complained of its hazardous nature.
It should be noted however that the importation of substandard rice in the country by Saad Group and other importers is not the first time it is happening.
It is now becoming a dejavu for rice importers to import rotten rice into the country and supply them to the Sierra Leone Police Force and members of the public with impunity.
An investigation conducted by the defunct State House Intelligence Unit sometimes back revealed how rice supplied to SLP and the Military by some of these importers was only fit for consumption by pigs.
When this dastardly act is discovered, these importers and suppliers most times allegedly bribe their way out and they are let off the hook at the expense of the citizens lives.
It is feared that the latest influx of the rotten champion rice will also go unpunished.
A senior official of Saad Group whilst responding to the allegation denied supplying rice to the Sierra Leone Police for the last two months but failed to deny the company’s alleged importation of the said hazardous rice in the country.
