For Lent Season….APC’s Jagaban Donates Le220 to Churches in Sierra Leone.
Ahead of the Lenten season, Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, affectionately known as “Jagaban,” has generously donated Le 220 million to support churches across Sierra Leone. This act of kindness aims to assist Christians as they begin their observance of Lent, a solemn period of reflection on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
Jagaban’s donation serves as a testament to his unwavering commitment to fostering peace and religious harmony in Sierra Leone. Despite being a devout Muslim, he has consistently demonstrated his benevolence towards his Christian compatriots by providing essential support to churches in communities across the nation. In a telephone interview from the United States, Sheikh Mohamed Omodu Kamara emphasized his deep appreciation for Sierra Leone’s religious tolerance, stressing the importance of preserving it for future generations.
In Port Loko, Rev Fr Simeon Foday Kamara of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish expressed gratitude for the timely Le 20 million donation, which will aid in renovating the church ahead of an important pastoral visit. Additionally, Jagaban was warmly welcomed into the Anglican family at St. James Anglican Church, marking a historic moment as the first Muslim to offer such significant support to the church.
The generous contributions were distributed among five churches in Port Loko, Tonkolili, and Kono, including Catholic, Anglican, Wesleyan, and Holy Ghost Bible Churches. In Freetown, the Jesus is Lord Ministry and the Limba Pentecostal Church each received Le 35 million, while the Seek Ye First Assembly received Le 30 million. Additionally, Le 20 million went to the Eastern Covenant Pastors Network, a coalition of over 100 churches in Sierra Leone.
These donations were presented by Abu Bakar Baturay, Vice President of the global Jagaban Foundation, and Sulivan Khallon, the home-based National Coordinator, highlighting the commitment of the organization to supporting communities across Sierra Leone.
