As APC Takes Peace Path…
SLPP IN BIG TROUBLE

By Ibrahim Alusine Kamara
The ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) led government could well be in big trouble as the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) appears to have finally taken the path of peace.
It follows a presser released past Wednesday, 26th May, 2020 by the APC National Secretary General, Ambassador Osman Foday Yansanneh, in which he stated that the party has held successful peace talks with key stakeholders including the ‘’Big Six’’- a group of flag bearer aspirants within the party, who many have been accused of being behind the many wrangling that continue to overwhelm the APC.
The APC release further states that the party is on course to take all the current legal matters out of court for amicable settlement.
The move by the main opposition to finally unite has been warmly welcomed by the general membership of the party and supporters of democracy especially at a time when many Sierra Leoneans seem to have lost all hopes in the current Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) government.
Unity in the main opposition spells doom for the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) according to many Sierra Leoneans especially when considering the numerical strength of the APC.
It could be recalled that the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) has since losing power to the SLPP in 2018 been embroiled in sustained controversies ranging from legal battles, flag bearer tussles among others.
Many believe that a united opposition is the only weapon to boot out the SLPP whose three years rule, according to majority of Sierra Leoneans, has been nothing to write home about, from governance come 2023 elections.
It has been argued that the SLPP only won the 2018 election because of the disunity in the APC at the time which many say emanated from the outcome of the Makeni Convention.
Many flag bearer aspirants who had contested in 2018 abandoned the party in that election in protest over the disappointment they faced in Makeni and thus the reason for the loss of the party in the election.
With total peace in sight in the APC, it spells doom for the ruling SLPP which also stands accused of being behind most of the wrangling in the main opposition.
