For killing his uncle…
19-year-old Hassan Sesay Declared Wanted
By Ibrahim Alusine Kamara
Nineteen -year old teenager, Hassan Sesay, is officially a fugitive after law enforcement authorities declared him wanted last Thursday May 25th, 2017, during the monthly press briefing of the Sierra Leone Police at their headquarters on George Street, Freetown.

He is wanted for alleged wounding with intent, manslaughter, murder and other related offences for which a handsome reward has been put in place for any useful information that may lead to his arrest.
Speaking to press men, the head of Media for the Sierra Leone Police, Supt. Brima Kamara stated that Sesay is accused of stabbing one of his paternal uncle, Foday Sesay, early this month, following an altercation over his late father’s piece of land at Calaba Town, east of the capital, Freetown.
Foday Sesay, Media One Further discloses, was rushed to the Connaught Hospital but gave up the ghost about a week ago, as a result of the stabbing.
Hassan Sesay has since taken to his heels following the incident and has remained elusive according to police reports.
Preliminary police findings revealed that the altercation emanated from a parcel of land belonging to one Ahmed Sesay, Hassan Sesay’s late father, which three of his paternal uncles, including Foday Sesay, were fighting tooth and nail to get of hold of as tradition dictates.
Hassan’s refusal to let his uncles get hold of the land, police findings reveal, resulted in the fight which saw the fugitive stabbed Foday Sesay in self-defense.
It is normal practice in Sierra Leone for relatives of a deceased man to fight over his properties even at the expense of his children and spouses.
Hassan’s case is just one of many instances in which paternal relatives tend to take undue advantage of children and spouses of deceased family men, by dispossessing them of properties left behind by their fathers and husbands.
It is unfortunate that Hassan took the laws into his own hands and now finds himself in this situation which may potentially lead him to life-imprisonment when apprehended.
It is therefore crucial for authorities to take action that will put an end to this archaic tradition, thereby guaranteeing spouses and children of deceased men their rightful inheritance for properties that may have been left behind.
