…CORRUPT ED HALTS LICENSES PRODUCTION

Report reaching this medium revealed that the current Executive Director at the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA), Reverend Smart K Senesie has halted the production of driver’s licenses, thus, creating artificial scarcity and room for the influx of fake license.

According to an intel, the ED together with his cronies has formed a cabal including the Director of Transport, Arthur Brima in stopping all payment for driver’s license.

“The act of the ED is one way of depriving the public to access drivers’ license at this particular point in time. It will surprise you to know that police are harassing people for expired drivers’ license. SLRSA that has the mandate to produce license is refusing to accept payment as ordered by Reverend Smart K Senesie,” said one of the drivers suffering from this unfortunate act.

Another driver revealed that they are charged to court if found wanting by the police without valid drivers’ license, adding that this has been happening over a month now.

“This scarcity will give access to those that have access to print fake license to do so as SLRSA failed to put out any statement refusing to issue out license. No statement in informing the public reasons for such an action and the need for massive arrest of drivers, moreso public transport drivers,” Drivers Union boss, Alpha Bah stated via telephone interview.

He continued that whatever the case may be, the authority should try by all means to start production of drivers’ licenses or inform the public the reasons for such action.

It could be recalled that the Sierra Leone Roads Authority announced an increment in the Five Years Driver’s License Tariffs effective Monday 22 April, 2024.

According to SLRSA, this decision follows careful consideration of current economic conditions, inflation rates and the need to maintain high standards in road transport services.

However, this decision by the ED has face serious condemnation from the public, including popular right activist, Edmond Abu, who criticized SLRSA following the increment.
