On March 26, 2025, Hon. Memunatu Jalloh, affectionately known as Hon. Mems, made a significant contribution to her hometown, Konta Kuma, by donating 20 solar-powered streetlights. This generous act underscores her unwavering commitment to uplifting the community where she was born and raised.

The donation forms part of Hon. Mems’ broader vision of fostering infrastructural development and enhancing the quality of life for residents. By providing solar-powered streetlights, she aims to improve nighttime visibility, bolster security, and facilitate economic and social activities after dusk. The installation of these lights is expected to create a safer environment, particularly for women, children, and traders who navigate the streets during late hours.

Speaking at the handing-over ceremony, Hon. Mems reaffirmed her dedication to sustainable energy solutions. “Solar power is not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly. This initiative is a step towards promoting renewable energy in our communities and reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources,” she stated.

Her philanthropic gesture has been met with widespread appreciation from the residents of Konta Kuma. Many expressed their gratitude, emphasizing the transformative impact of the donation. Community members noted that prior to this intervention, poorly lit streets posed safety risks and hindered movement at night. The new solar-powered lights will ensure safer commutes for students, workers, and local businesses.

Mr. Mohamed Alimamy Sesay, a prominent stakeholder in the community, commended Hon. Mems for her generosity. “This is a remarkable contribution that will serve generations to come. Our children will now be able to study at night, and our streets will be safer for everyone. We sincerely appreciate Hon. Mems for her love and support,” he remarked.

Beyond street lighting, Hon. Mems has continuously demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility toward her people. In a further show of goodwill, she donated over 50 (50kg) bags of rice to mosques and stakeholders in Masimera Chiefdom, Port Loko District. This additional support was well-received, especially during a period when food security remains a concern for many households.

Hon. Mems’ contributions reflect her deep-rooted commitment to humanitarian service and sustainable development. Her efforts continue to inspire hope, setting a commendable example of how leadership can be leveraged to improve lives. The residents of Konta Kuma and beyond remain hopeful for more initiatives that prioritize their well-being and development.
