Freetown Terminal Limited (FTL), a subsidiary of Africa Global Logistics (AGL), has once again demonstrated its commitment to community support by donating food items valued at NLe572,000 to the Seaside and Moa Wharf Communities. The donation, which took place at the FTL Headquarters on Thursday, March 13, 2025, aims to provide assistance during the holy month of Ramadan, a time traditionally known for generosity and charitable giving.**

In keeping with the spirit of Ramadan, FTL contributed an impressive array of food items to aid families in need during this significant period. The donation included 106 bags of sugar (50 kg each), 6 bags of rice (25 kg each), 258 bags of rice (50 kg each), 160 bags of onions (25 kg each), 131 containers of cooking oil (20 liters each), along with 70 cartons of Maggi seasoning and 100 cartons of tomato paste. The combination of these essentials is expected to bolster the food security of the surrounding communities, particularly during the fasting month when many families aim to break their fast with nourishing meals.

Delivering his remarks during the ceremony, FTL General Manager Maroun Abi Aad emphasized that sharing and celebrating the spirit of giving is a longstanding tradition at FTL. “This initiative is not only about providing food; it reflects our commitment to foster goodwill and unity among our neighbors. We hope that this donation will uplift the spirits of the families of Seaside and Moa Wharf Communities,” he stated. His sentiments echoed the core values of compassion and solidarity that characterize the holy month of Ramadan.

The event also saw contributions from various community representatives who expressed heartfelt gratitude for FTL’s ongoing support. Captain Fabjanko Kokan, the Regional Country Manager of AGL, reiterated the company’s vision of empowering local communities and reinforcing their development. He remarked, “We believe in being proactive in supporting the people around us, regardless of their religious affiliations. It is all about love for our fellow citizens. I wish everyone a blessed and fruitful Ramadan.”

Community representatives were quick to voice their appreciation. Mohamed Lamin Koroma, representing the Seaside Community, thanked FTL and prayed for the company’s continued success. “We acknowledge your generosity, and as communities, we recognize our responsibility to protect your assets and create a safe environment for your operations,” Koroma noted, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship between FTL and the community.

Similar sentiments were echoed by a representative from the Moa Wharf Community, who expressed hope that the positive relationship between FTL and the community would persist. Their gratitude underscored the importance of such initiatives in strengthening community ties and ensuring that no one is left behind, especially during festive periods.

Eustace Rogers, a representative of the Sierra Leone Port and Harbour Authority (SLPHA), commented on the extensive impact of FTL’s annual gesture, highlighting its significance not just as a charitable act but a catalyst for community development. He extended thanks on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, reinforcing the collaboration that exists between FTL and governmental entities.

The timely nature of this donation was further recognized by Hon. Mariama Bangura, a Member of Parliament, who lauded the initiative as a wonderful gesture coinciding perfectly with the Ramadan season. She affirmed that this tradition of giving would undoubtedly yield positive effects on FTL’s business, linking corporate social responsibility with operational success. “I assure you that these items will be distributed fairly and effectively among those who need them most,” she promised.

Councillor Abu Bakarr Karim similarly expressed appreciation for the support, underscoring the sense of togetherness and shared prosperity inherent in these charitable acts. His acknowledgment underscored the collective gratitude felt within the community for FTL’s generosity.

The Dock Workers Union echoed these sentiments, with a representative reminding attendees of the adage that “givers never lack.” This age-old wisdom speaks to the interconnectedness of generosity and prosperity, suggesting that FTL’s benevolent actions will bring blessings upon the company. “We thank you for your unwavering support,” he remarked, adding a communal dimension to the appreciation expressed.

The presence of the police at the event further underscored the value of FTL’s contributions to community safety and security. A police representative commended FTL for their generous gift and assured attendees that they will continue to work to ensure security in the areas affected by the donation. This assurance from law enforcement illustrates the collaborative efforts that underpin community welfare and highlights how partnerships between businesses and public institutions can nurture safe environments for all.
